Work Overview

Image of Tuareg child in the village of Tedeini near Timbuktu, Mali Caravan to Class’ focus is on reversing the injustice of illiteracy—one village at a time. In Africa, one in three adults is illiterate. In Mali, the illiteracy rate is 75%, and in the villages in which Caravan to Class operates the illiteracy rate is often above 90%. For as little as $120 per year, we are able to educate a child in a government-approved school.

What We Do

Caravan to Class’ programs provide teaching, books, school uniforms, food, and infrastructure such as classrooms, libraries, canteens and latrines. Find out more about:

“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope... and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
