Nonprofit's Founder visits Timbuktu to gauge progress

Barry Hoffner, Founder and Executive Director, announced his recent visit to Timbuktu, Mali. The trip was to check progress on Caravan to Class' projects in the village of Tedeini, located outside of Timbuktu, Mali. The foundation is building a new 3 classroom building in the village, renovating an existing 3 classroom building, hiring teachers, repairing a well, and purchasing supplies and desks.

During the trip, Hoffner visited the local government Ministry and Education agency, and reported that the Timbuktu Regional Government has certified the Tedeini School. This assures a certain level of government funding, which had not existed prior to the Foundation's involvement. He also reports that in the interim while the main school building is under construction, the students are studying in temporary tent classrooms with their new teachers. Images of the construction and students can be seen at THIS LINK.
