NEWS RELEASE – For Immediate Release
11-year-old student Kalina Benhamou raises $1,000 for Caravan to Class during Global Giving Challenge
Sausalito, CA - (November 24, 2011)
Kalina Benhamou, an 11 year old student from Laude San Pedro International School in Marbella, Spain and a dedicated team of classmates, Yana Rovner, Olivia Iturmendi Gamble, and Josh Martin raised roughly $1,000 for Caravan to Class in a series of bake sales at their school.
When Kalina Benhamou heard about the Global Giving Challenge, she contacted Executive Director of Caravan to Class, Barry Hoffner, and said that she would like to help raise money for the Mora school project. Kalina mentioned that she and her friends would organize some bake sales to both raise money and awareness of illiteracy in Africa.
Two weeks later, she reported back to Caravan to Class, "There were four of us and we sold everything; there was nothing left. We sold cakes, cupcakes, cookies and fizzy drinks." Her parents, Franck and Zora Benhamou were so proud of what the kids had accomplished that they supplemented the amount raised.
...seeing children like Kalina and her team, inspired towards social justice issues like illiteracy, gives me great hope for the future.
